Day 13: Focus – The untamed mind

It is a Monday. Mondays are always busy in the morning especially for me. I write daily hunch every morning, at least before noon when my mind is still fresh. It is easy to give in and postpone because, there is too much to do today, the hunch can wait, there goes my mind! I am well aware what is happening, impulses are up but I have to go with my conscious mind and I cannot allow impulses to dictate my decisions and how I will live my day.

Untamed mind is a minefield. It has no regulation, it lacks focus and it lacks self-control. Anything can trick your mind into thinking you want something that you actually do not want. Let me sleep a little bit more. Let me just watch movie instead of reading a book. Let me do that tomorrow. All this sound good and valid in short term but in the long-term, they are not.

How do you then tame you mind to the things that matter most to you?

One day of not following your routine, or plan and sliding back to an old behavior you had dropped will certainly not manifest in short term, what it does is that it sets a precedent that does actually reflect in the long term.

What is the antidote; Today, choose to focus on what you want most rather than what you want now. Makes sure that the satisfaction you want most is so strong than the satisfaction you get from what you can do now. This way, you will have an easier time resisting the temptations subjected to you. Read my favorite scripture below when I experience temptations.

Tomorrow, we look at how long-standing focus can help us remain tuned to our goals.

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

1 Corinthians 10:13
This is daily Hunch. A Hunch to help you become.
